Why is our program called ‘Ansar’?

The term “Ansar” (الأنصار‎) meanssupporters” or “helpers.”

During the life of the Prophet (PBUH), the Ansar were the local inhabitants of Madinah who pledged their support to him (PBUH) and welcomed the early Muslim community, the Muhajirun (emigrants), when they migrated from Makkah to Madinah to escape persecution,. The Ansar shared their homes and wealth with the new immigrants, and provided every type of support possible

The incredible spirit of generosity and selflessness of the Ansar towards their immigrant brothers was a rare example of human excellence that has never been replicated in known human history, either before or after the Ansar.

Allah says about Al Ansar: “they love whoever immigrates to them, never having a desire in their hearts for whatever ˹of the gains˺ is given to the emigrants. They give ˹the emigrants˺ preference over themselves even though they may be in need. And whoever is saved from the selfishness of their own souls, it is they who are ˹truly˺ successful.” (59:9)

The Messenger of Allah () said, “The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever”. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
